Nestled along the banks of the Mission Creek, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History provides a place for unique wedding ceremonies and receptions.  Whether you are planning a wedding, rehearsal dinner, elegant evening event, casual picnic, or a barbeque, the museum offers a number of unique facilities available for any special event. Wedding guests are sure to enjoy the beautiful creekside setting, historic Spanish buildings, and the peaceful surroundings of Mission Canyon.

Coggeshall Bowl:

This beautifully carved stone amphitheater is perfect for wedding ceremonies accommodating up to 80 guests seated, or for a welcome pre-ceremony standing reception for approximately 150 guests.

Wooded Area:

Guests can access this area by crossing Mission Creek over the pedestrian bridge. You may accomodate guests to stand for a brief ceremony or have rental chairs arranged to create an aisle for the bridal party to enter. The wooded area is available for wedding ceremonies only or as a part of a wedding and reception package. Events may begin at 5:00 p.m. in this area.  Capacity: Theater-style – 300. Additional Space in combination with Broder Area: Outdoor Seated Event – additional 100; Outdoor Standing Event – additional 150.

Broder Building and Patio Area:

Ideal as a post ceremony cocktail reception for guests to enjoy beverages and appetizers. The Broder Patio offers a serene wooded area.  Only background acoustical music is allowed in this area.   The guest capacity for an outdoor Seated Event is 150; Outdoor Cocktail style reception is 200.

Fleischmann Auditorium:

For receptions, dinner and dancing; the Fleischmann Auditorium accommodates a seated dinner and dance reception for up to 200 people, or cocktail style for up to 300 guests.  This room allows amplified music. Events may begin at 5:00 and last until 11:00 p.m. in Fleischmann.

Pricing Information for Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History

Location / Cost:

Wooded Area for ceremony only: $1,000.00

Wooded Area and Broder Building: $2,000.00

Fleischmann Auditorium, Wooded Area & Broder Building: $3,000.00

All areas: refundable security deposit for $ 500.00

Deposit: The $200 security deposit is a refundable deposit and is returned in full if there is no permanent damage, excessive cleaning of the facility, and if all guidelines are followed during the event.

Insurance: A liability insurance certificate is required.

Smoking: Smoking and/or the use of tobacco products is not permitted inside any Museum building or on Museum grounds.

Decorations: All décor, including plants, flowers, additional lights, etc., must be approved by the Museum BEFORE the event. Nails and/or adhesive tapes may not be used to apply anything to walls, casework or exhibit signs. Open-flame candles are not permitted, exceptions will be made if they are in a glass votive or hurricane holder.

Bathrooms: Bathrooms available on site.

Dressing: There are two options for a bridal dressing area.

Music: Amplified music is not allowed in any of the outdoor sites.
