Location Spotlight: The Santa Barbara Club Offer
Location Spotlight: The Santa Barbara Club Offer
By: Felici Events
Add another reason to host your event at Santa Barbara’s best kept secret!
One of my favourite locations in Santa Barbara is the Santa Barbara Club. So much so, that last year when Gavin Roy and myself gathered a group of Elite Santa Barbara wedding vendors to create the Santa Barbara Wedding Experience, we chose the Santa Barbara Club as the location for the Reception Night Party.
Guests (couples and vendors alike) were awed with the experience that The Santa Barbara Club offers. Some said it felt like a East Coast location, and then the opinion that it was a Southern feeling. Either way, this hidden gem is a must have experience to incorporate into your wedding weekend. Click here to read more about the Santa Barbara Club.
SHORTLIST OF WHY I LOVE THIS PLACE:
Location, good food, unique ambiance, the large outdoor grassy area, the windows that open up into the lawn area, the patio with fountain, the living room with fireplace, the bar, quirky decor, the library, YOU CAN PLAY MUSIC PAST 10PM!!!

Moments: See what flowers . . .
See what flowers are at my feet,
What soft incense hangs upon the boughs,
Wherewith the seasonable mouth endows
The grass, the thicket, and the fruit-tree wild;
White hawthorne, fast-fading violets
And the coming musk-rose, full of dewy wine,
The murmurous haunts of summer eves.

Defining Style: Inspiration from Art
A good friend in the event industry sent me a link to a story from the Today show website entitled “Have Websites made all Weddings look the Same?” –this has been a hot topic of conversation lately amongst industry professionals with all of the pinning and posting and recycling of trends. It sometimes seems impossible to avoid the recycled cliché . . . so I suppose the question moving forward is how do you separate yourself from the masses? How do you find inspiration that will define your own unique style? This is a huge question but one that I thought we could address over a series of posts. I’m calling this new series “Defining Style” . . .
I was reminded the other day of a wonderful event that we used to do here in Santa Barbara (unfortunately we no longer have it here) at the Museum called Art in Bloom. Similar events are still held at events throughout the country like MFA Boston, the de Young Museums, the San Diego Museum of Art, Milwaukee Art Museum, and many more. During these events floral artists are invited to create an installation or arrangement inspired by a work of art on view in the Museum galleries. Not only is this a wonderful opportunity to see some innovative, avante garde floral design, but it’s also a great way to find inspiration for your own event. Perhaps your own unique style is waiting for you in your favorite painting that you have in your living room or maybe you will find it on a fun date visiting the diverse galleries at LACMA for the day? There is inspiration to be found everywhere . . .
Here are some photos from some of the events at the San Diego Museum of Art and the Milwaukee Art Museum:

Location Spotlight: Fess Parker Winery
Location Spotlight: Fess Parker Winery

Driving north along the pastoral Foxen Canyon Wine Trail feels like traveling back to California’s early days. Rolling hills frame vast meadows, deer and wildlife roam free, and pristine landscapes stretch as far as the eye can see.

Completed in 1994, the winery and tasting room are loosely designed after an Australian sheep station, with a grand stone fireplace, stone floors, and a wraparound veranda with picnic tables.

The spacious complex is set amid an acre of meticulously landscaped grounds that border the vineyard. The amphitheater-style lawn, rimmed by mature oaks, provides a serene setting for picnics, summer evening performances by Shakespeare Santa Barbara, and other events.

Indoors, visitors taste the latest vintages at a worn knotty pine bar, surrounded by photos of Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone and other memorabilia related to the actor’s television roles.

Fabulous Fare: Award Winning Cocktail, Season’s “Serrano Sunset”
Recipe/Photo: Seasons Catering
At a recent gathering of event industry professionals Seasons Catering took top prize in a mixology competition for their “Serrano Sunset” a fresh and luscious twist on the tequila sunrise. Be sure to visit the Seasons Catering website and BLOG for more fresh menu inspiration, recipes and event planning ideas . . .
The Story of the Serrano Sunset (and the recipe!)
By: Seasons Catering
After a couple of days tinkering with recipes, here is the winning drink that the Seasons team came up with. We spiced up a classic tequila sunrise by adding Serrano peppers and blood orange puree and came up with the amazing and unique Serrano Sunset. We are so proud that of the 9 awards of the night, Seasons took home 3, including the coveted “Judge’s Choice” award! Aside from the unique taste, we love the versatility of this cocktail base; it works equally well served with vodka or tequila as well as a non-alcoholic option when combined with a splash of soda.
So without further ado, we present…
Serrano Sunset
1 part vodka or tequila
1 part fresh squeezed orange juice
½ part Serrano-mint simple syrup
¼ part fresh squeezed lime juice
~ combine above in an ice filled martini shaker, shake rigorously
~ pour into a sugar-rimmed martini glass
~ finish with a drizzle of blood orange puree and garnish with a Serrano slice for extra spice!
Serrano-mint simple syrup
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1 serrano pepper, sliced
¼ cup mint leaves
~ combine water and sugar in small saucepan over low heat until sugar is completely dissolved
~ Take off of heat, add mint and Serrano and let sit for 30 min to 1 hour to infuse flavors
~ strain before use
CHEERS!!!
