Romantic Ojai Valley Inn Wedding:
Our bride and groom’s amazing wedding ceremony took place in the intimate Ojai Valley Inn Herb Garden. Cozy, with family and friends and the couple’s baby in her antique, flower-draped pram, we created a ceremony site that was perfect for the garden setting. Two antique urns on beautiful pillars held dramatic floral and fresh greenery, adding a beautiful depth and texture to the ceremony site. Situated on the sprawling green grass in the field below the ceremony was a classic white tent, draped in taffeta, with generous curtains pulled back with garlands of rich, peachy-golden toned floral. The peach tones floral arrangements were stunning, as they meandered down each table in a variety of antique vessels, enhanced by the natural amber glow of candle light. The room had a warm and romantic tone, and was particularly sweet with the grass below… a welcome juxtaposition to such a stunning and elegant tent. The custom wood and linen pillars and inset linen ceiling were fabulous and unique decor elements. The dark wood dining chairs were lovely, particularly at the end of each oval table, which held two chairs with a custom ruffled linen slipcover to match the table drape. Those slipcovered chairs were such charming elements.
The piece de resistance of the event was a patisserie and a charcuterie. The patisserie was every girl’s dream… while the charcuterie, every man’s. What an amazing and original reveal it was when these two beautifully designed boutique “stores” were revealed to guests’ delight after the cake was cut! The lighting and interior of each made them seem as if they were plucked from a tiny street in France.
The Patisserie had a tall, white display case, flanked by two elegantly framed gilded mirrors. Three crystal chandeliers hung from above, illuminating the soft pink draping on the walls of the shop. Cloches of fresh baked goods, truffles and macaroons all made by former Martha Stewart Food Editor Elizabeth Colling were bountiful. Staggeringly beautiful cakes and cupcakes were presented in an array of flavors and muted colors by the uber talented Robyn Loves Cake. Antique porcelain dishes were stacked high, allowing guests to help themselves or be served by the adorable white and pink frocked Patisserie attendants. -Merryl Brown, Merryl Brown Events
Ojai Valley Inn Rehearsal Dinner in the Old Red Barn:
Rustic, dusty and muted tones filled the old red barn at the Ojai Valley Inn with a charming old world elegance through the use of beautiful textiles, open organic flowers and a dappling of flickering candles. This was truly a welcoming and unexpected detour for a barn that frequently displays a country “barn party” look. Vignettes composed of chic linen sofas and oversized linen chairs were arranged in areas that beckoned guests to sit down and take in the surrounding energy with a favorite cocktail in hand! Billowing curtains, sewn from yards and yards of earthy toned linen were pulled back with dramatic floral sashes, giving the barn a fresh and lovely look. Diner was served at a collection of round and rectangular dining tables draped in lovely soft green woven textiles and English floral La Tavola linens, creating an eclectic and wonderful late spring look. Music played all evening long and then kicked into high gear on the hand-painted dance floor while ice cream sundaes were served from a rustic wooden table, along with footed mugs of steaming coffee. This rehearsal dinner was a glorious way to kick off an epic wedding weekend! – Merryl Brown, Merryl Brown Events

The gorgeous, vibrant florals by Louloudi Design add the perfect fresh breath of old world romance to this palette of jewels–bringing it back down to earth (just enough) Santa Barbara style. Lovely.
I recently took up a wonderful new meditative activity of stacking rocks. So before you close this post and move onto the wedding chicks website . . . just wait for one minute. After being married for now 12 years I have learned a few things. Joining your life with another person is a joyful, passionate, loving, beautiful celebration. A wedding is an opportunity for you to declare your intention that you wish to spend the rest of your lives together, in front of your family, friends, God and the Universe. So basically it is about your “intentions”.
Getting back to my pile of rocks now . . . When I was recently on a little renewal retreat in Arizona I would sit by this beautiful fountain in the middle of the massive spiritual resort, the fountain was created to look like a giant pile of rocks. Around it people had created tons of little and big pyramids of their own rocks. There was one large boulder with the word “INTENTIONS” carved into the face which sat nestled into where the fountain spilled into a flowing creek bed.
I’m sharing this because I love the idea of incorporating this as something to share together as an engaged couple or even in your wedding. You might want to practice a bit (its not as easy as it looks, trust me) but what a lovely symbol of setting your intentions together as a couple: Finding a stable foundation, establishing balance, working together, and when everything falls apart you just rebuild, and sometimes things get shaky, but eventually you will reach a point when you look at what you built and you can’t believe how lovely it is–it seems somehow miraculous and impossible.
So I wish you the best of luck with your own pile of rocks.
xoxo Love, Liane
