Reveal of the 2023 Pantone Color of the Year
Did you know there is a designated color of the year? Every 365 days, Pantone USA selects a new color to celebrate and appreciate—breathing new life and beauty into the world.
Now, at the end of 2022, the reign of Very Peri—an alluring and unique shade of purple—is sadly coming to an end. But, that means it’s time to usher in a new wonderful color and start the year fresh with a bright new shade. So, without further adieu, the 2023 Pantone Color of the Year is…(drumroll please) Viva Magenta!
The color is quite vibrant and is expressive of both strength and fearlessness with its red undertones. Pantone also describes the deep magenta as “powerful and empowering” and “a new animated red that revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint”. Truly a color for those who are full of life with just a touch of a rebellious side.
Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director, Leatrice Eiseman, additionally shares the inspiration behind the new 2023 shade:
“In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.
Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”
