There is a gastronome explosion downtown Santa Barbara with the opening of the Santa Barbara Public Market. One block off State Street, adjacent to the historical Arlington Theatre, SBPM rests on the corner of Chapala and Victoria streets, across the street from the best restaurants in Santa Barbara.
The market offers similarities to the concept offered by the SF Bay area – Ferry Bldg and Rockridge Market. Mini food courts showcasing an array of handcrafted, regionally sourced and sustainably made foods and groceries prepared for eating in and solo food items for take away are all available. There is also a large wine bazaar in the center with a glass enclosed area that facilitates wine tasting at tables.
The Santa Barbara Public Market doors open at 7 AM daily, though hours may differ for each shop. The Santa Barbara Public Market features a commissary kitchen with a menu of programming, including cooking classes, local chef highlights and winemaker dinners.

Location Spotlight: The Maritime Museum Observation Deck
By: Felici Events
Perched atop the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, on the fourth floor, is one of Santa Barbara’s hidden secret locations. The observatory is perfect for intimate gatherings of up to 35 people cocktail reception style.
There is a decent size deck with some lounge furniture and boasting breathtaking views of the harbor, right below, the majestic mountain backdrop, the American Riviera and Pacific Ocean. The observation deck is a quaint and offers 360˚ views of Santa Barbara.
This intimate gathering space is perfect for a private cocktail party for up to 35 guests, or a private anniversary or elopement dinner for two. Due to the limited space, if one considers brining in food, I suggest it be platters, as there is no kitchen or ability to prepare on-site. The Endless Summer below could accommodate nosh needs.
There is an existing table perfect to use for a bar, and you can bring in your own alcohol. You will / should provide minimal rentals simply to enhance the space, but logistically it works well.
While visiting this location earlier this week. four sets of local residents walked up oohing and aaaahing at the location and views and commented that “they didn’t event know this place existed”. A true Santa Barbara secret, the Observation Deck will certainly knock your socks off.
